9 Songs - Dub Thompson [VINYL]
Dub band Thompson recorded their debut album 9 Songs (2014) while living with Jonathan Rado of Foxygen in the house he rented in Bloomington, giving him his first taste of the heavy summer of Indiana, with all the humidity and bugs that come with it. Their musical influences range from the Midwestern malaise of Big Black and Pere Ubu, to pioneers Kraut Can and Kraftwerk, while bowing to the British belligerence of The Fall and This Heat. Their first collection of songs slyly loosens genres and conventions, mischievously metamorphoses, and tramples on the promises delivered by the name itself. Intense bursts of catchy noise rock, rocksteady, hypnotic bouts of mournful poetics, sexy groove rock, and a number of other forays into parts unknown are made apparent throughout 9 Songs. Recorded, produced by and featuring Jonathan Rado of Foxygen.
